About Microsoft® SQL Server
The Sepialine Cost Recovery Platform is built on Microsoft SQL Server database
technology. This paper discussed the requirements and considerations for hosting SQL Server
in typical office environments.
As of version 6.0, Sepialine is built on Microsoft SQL Server 2000. Sepialine software
ships with MSDE 2000 (Microsoft Data Engine) - a free "light" version
of Microsoft SQL Server 2000. MSDE allows you to run Sepialine software without the need to
purchase a full SQL Server license.
If your organization already owns Microsoft SQL Server 2000, you may install
leverage your existing SQL Server for your Sepialine installation in lieu of using the
supplied MSDE. Alternately, you may opt to install MSDE anyway.
In the past, Microsoft SQL Server gained notice as potentially vulnerable to
viruses such as "Sasser". All software products are susceptible to virus attacks; care
should be taken to ensure that your network is protected. Sepialine remains committed to providing secure, but
we urge all customers to stay abreast of security and virus threats, and protect your network
accordingly.
If you install the MSDE database engine that ships with Sepialine software, all the same
service packs and patches created for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 will apply to your Sepialine
installation. For the latest information about Microsoft SQL Server updates, please
visit the Microsoft SQL Server
Downloads Page. Remember that only Microsoft SQL Server 2000 downloads are applicable.
The MSDE version that ships with Argos software will reliably scale to cover approximately
150 users. Beyond 150 users, you may wish to consider a full Microsoft SQL Server license. In addition
to scaling to larger enterprises, the full version of SQL Server includes a number of tools, useful
for customization, diagnostics and backup.
